Using a Meet link for meetings – Google Classroom
If you use the Classroom Meet link method to begin a meeting, once you copy/paste and then announce the Meet or make the Meet link visible to students, the link is then live and pupils can join that Meet before the teacher. Also, if a pupil was to click the link before a teacher, that pupil becomes the moderator of the Meet and has full control over the meeting.
Make changes to stop pupils joining Google Meets
The issue of pupils joining meetings without the teacher present can be prevented by making a change within the Google administrative console. It makes a change to the students’ account so that they are unable to place video and voice calls. With this change, they can no longer join Meets before the teacher has started the Meet. It also means that they can’t hold Meets amongst themselves.
The administrative console is only available to administrators (Inspire ICT team). Should you require this change, please raise a case on the helpdesk stating: “5.2.1 Make change to stop pupils joining Google Meets”.
